Volnay-Santenots 1er Cru Pinot Noir

Such a complex, aromatic nose and silky soft texture. Allspice, rhubarb, dead leaves, black tea. I just love the Ampeau style.

A bit too much Brett for me. Complex. Tart and tannic.

In a great place. Needed 30-40 mins of air to blossom but then fading fruit, smoke, tea, but of meat, leaves. Very long & very complex. Wish I’d tried the ‘93 Pommard villages as well.

This is slightly over the hill but still some lovely burgundy character. Decaying wet leaves, cherry pits, resolved tannin

Finally open for business

Tastes past its prime for such a strong vintage. Brownish color, old tertiary nose, decent on the palate. Not a usual bold ‘93.

Wet autumn leaves, earth, mushroom, very much secondary/tertiary aromas. Seamless tannins, medium finish. Almost Rhone like.

A little long in the tooth but a delightful afternoon quaff with some Neapolitan pizza with an old friend.

Has all the qualities I look for in aged Burgundy. Glad we have more!
