Solea Langhe Chardonnay Blend
Roagna is somewhat of a rising star in Piedmont. Of course the estate is storied but in recent years it's been getting plenty of attention. And they aren't all about their Barolo. This gorgeous Chardonnay is as surprising to find in Piedmont as it is delicious. Supple, clean and elegant with some minerality, this wine is its own kind of Chardonnay. Worth seeking out, especially given how food friendly it is, as demonstrated at a superb recent meal at Maialino in NYC.

Apr 18th, 2018super delicious. from the louis/dressner website: Grapes: 75-80% Chardonnay and 20-25% Vinification: grapes are hand-picked; pressing and vinification in wood casks. Maceration of Chardonnay grapes for 2 weeks, then Nebbiolo grapes are pressed and added. Fermentation in wood casks. Aging: 3-5 years in medium-sized French and Slavonian oak casks, then in bottle.

This is deceptively hot on the nose, but on tasting it's a medium to full with bracing back acidity. Smells of pineapple and kiwi, but the mouth is all quince pucker and yellow fruit. Just amazing with a fatty flavorful fish or roast chicken

Roagna "Solea" 2012 is sourced from 30 year old vines in the Pira vineyard located within the village of Castiglione Falletto. A small percentage of Nebbiolo is cofermented in with the Chardonnay in large wooden casks, then aged in neutral barrels for 2 years.
Rich up front, a line of saline undercuts the richness. Fresh pear and lemon in the nose and palate. As the palate shifts to the back it becomes linear and minerally, awash in fresh acidity and a long, clean, mineral finish. #roagna
