From what I can tell, Roagna’s Langhe Rosso is a combination of fruit from Pira and Paje made in Roagna’s traditional style of long macerations and neutral oak fermentation. I brought this bottle of the 2016 to Tasting Group and presented it double-blind to the crew. The wine pours a bright ruby with a transparent core and slightly water rim. The nose is redolent with raspberries, cranberries, mushrooms, licorice, and tobacco. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. The fruit and non-fruit characteristics are confirmed. The finish is quite long. Most everyone’s calls were in Italy and mostly Piemonte with a couple calling Langhe 2016 and a few calling Barbaresco 2016…which is pretty good if you ask me. In debrief, we all found this bottle to be pretty austere and felt that it was holding its cards really close to its chest. The juice is really good...it just needs some time. FWIW, I saved a glass in the bottle to enjoy later in the evening and it had opened a little more by then. With that in mind, I expect these to be quite nice in a few years and enjoyable for several years to come.

Very pretty, shows the delicate side of Nebbiolo - floral - lots of roses, violets, dried herbs, touch of mushroom.

Pure and elegant. Nice fruit on the nose and continues with a herbal, earthy touch. Nice level in alcohol and acidity. Tannins are smooth and a good lenght.
Levels up a bit after a while in the glass.
Will deffo reccomend this wine.

Super structured entry level from Roagna. Near garnet in the glass. Loads of dried red fruits and herbs with intense grip and nice acidity. Hold or pair with rib roast.

Beautiful light brick color. Very dry, good forward acids, lush tannins. Everything to love about Nebbiolo. Saline dry roses and violets, lighter on the tar. Was excellent with a rib-eye. From Flatiron Wines. 10/21/22

スミレやローズの花。程よい果実のあとには、シュッとしたミネラル。タンニンは上品で、アルコール、インクのアフター。
14度というアルコール感を感じさせないしなやかさ。上質感。
ドンピシャで好みのやつ。

Aging to a beautiful brick color. Nice and grippy, lots of dried roses, violets, tar. Cherries and some prune, a little ferrous, well-rounded acids and elegant. Barbaresco-esque. From Flatiron Wines. 02/14/22
