WNH NY, 2021.
From magnum.
The morning after the sausage-making the night before. The sausages were great during consumption (so-to-speak), but when you wake up, you see how the sausages were made!
Personally, I’ve never had a bad bottle of Ridge, and this example followed that pattern. Tilts much more towards a Bdx in terms of its style and personality. Black plums, currants and a hint of soft tobacco present on the nose and palate. Medium weight, with moderate tannins, but brighter acidity than I expected. Out of a magnum, this needs more time, but presented beautifully tonight.
A great gift from
@Shay A’s cellar - thanks bud!

Wow. This is still very youthful by most standards. Berry pie, mild oak, floral, herbal note. Silky smooth tannin leads the way to rich dark fruit and spice/cracked pepper. Good lengthy finish too. Still bright and brooding at 10 years old. Better than anticipated.

Expressive nose of dark chocolate, blackberries, plums, pencil lead, hints of mint. A bit more mediterranean than usual. Mouthful, long, balsamic, complex

Thrilled to finally try this legend of a wine. This has all of the calling cards of big Cali cabs- plum, currant, eucalyptus, herbs, cedar - with an incredible balance of acid and velvety tannin, and only 13.3% alcohol. Long complex finish, super drinkable, but with some edge. Drank with a peppery hanger steak.

Black fruit with pleasantly dusty herbs. Pure black currant. Pure waves of rolling spice that grows with time. Not cheap, but great value for money. $50 at winery.

Lots of mountain fruit, predominately blue, gravel, eucalyptus or mint, and herbs. Seriously good juice, would be even better in abt 5 years!

Oh heeelll yeah. Aromas soar from the bottle upon popping the cork. A closer sniff initially reveals the familiar Ridge notes of dark fruit and American oak. 45 min decant provided it space to really open up revealing its dark fruit and tobacco notes. Smooth tannin and ample acidity added structure to round out this wonderful wine. Not the most complex per se but wow, what a great bottle nonetheless. Paired perfectly with our wild boar and roasted potatoes. Wow.
