On the first night, even with a two hour decant, the 2015 Marcenasco from Renato Ratti didn’t show as well as it did the second – by which point it had knitted together much better. It’s an open, expressive Barolo from this much lauded vintage, polished, elegant, accessible now at nine years of age with a promising life ahead.

Good wine in a garbage year. If this was my first time trying a Ratti Barolo I’d never try it again. I guessed dolcetto d’alba when I tried it blind. Take that in.

Tried twice! Located halfway up the hill dominating principal valley of Barolo, lined by vineyards, lies a precious 15th century Abbey of Annunziata. Medium Ruby with complex aromas of berry fruits, oak and fresh floral scents. On the palate dried cherry, tobacco, licorice, espresso and fresh herbs give this full-body wine grace and elegance. Soft fine dusty tannins, with earthy notes, on a well balanced frame makes this hot vintage wine approachable today as well as have room to run over the next decade. Very Nice!

Not a good year... or batch... I don't know... it doesn't taste like a Barolo.

Elegant and classic Barolo. Perfumed nose of roses, cardamon spice, tar. Bright cherry and raspberry. Evolved after an hour with additional leather and dried fruit tertiary notes.
