Soft and velvety for such a young barbaresco. Ripe cherry, licorice, dried herbs, cedar, damp earth. Accessible

The 2011 Pora Riserva from Produttori del Barbaresco was exceptional! It was dry, raisiny, heavy on bright currant and cranberry.

This was absolutely phenomenal and brought back beautiful memories of my dear friend Gino as well as our friendship.

Happy Yule, Merry Christmas, and have a Happy New Year 🎊

Grippy with good fruit and depth on the mid palate. Needs a bit of time to settle and soften, but great material here.

Open knit and supple. Evocative aroma, but lacking a bit of complexity. Very typical for 2011 and the Pora bottling. In a great place...I don't foresee further development.

Tarry notes with menthol and liquorice. Highly savoury medium weight palate - no fruit descriptors except dried fruit finishing with fine grained powdery persistent tannins and M minus acid. I think the tannins in Nebbiolo never actually resolve or meld - with age they get finer but they are always there. Good Barolo needs at least 20 years and for good Barbaresco you might get away with 15 years I reckon. This wine probably could have done with a couple more years. Made for food - in this case pork steaks.

Sanguine, rust, basil, rosemary. Tart red cherry, fresh rose petal, and mint. High acidity, gripping elevated tannins, elevated body. Medium finish. Rougher tannins than Ovello 2014 and Asili 2014.

Pora is one of 9 specific vineyards marketed as a Riserva after 4 years by the Produttori. We visited there several years ago and had a tasting of several of the distinct Cuvées. Rabaja and Asili would be 2 of the better known of these Cuvées. The Produttori is a great example of a cooperative working well for all the growers in the district. This 2005 Pora was medium Ruby in colour - transparent in spots. Aromas of earth dried rose petals and a touch of Tar and Tannin. Yes you can almost smell the Tannins! The light colour belies the power of this wine even at 14 years. On the palate sour cherries light tarry notes and masses of fine powdery Tannins - persistent and long. This wine demands food and it went well with Lamb Chops. If I had another of these I would leave it for at least another 5 years. Loved it.

Slightly stewed red and blue fruit, some freshness too if that makes sense. Tart but soft fruit. Pretty play doh like finish to the midpalate. Pretty.
