As others have mentioned, the Montefico is among the richer Barbaresco's from PdB. The 2017 can age longer than the '15s and '16s. Still tight... better after an hour, but hold if you can. Delicious!

Enjoying the nerve and austerity of this Montefico, there’s plenty of fruit beginning to express a tertiary side, all backed up by the grippy tannin and firm mineral core. Lifted nose, dried orange peel, crushed mint, dried black cherry, peppercorn, earth, some leathery VA.

Still so young, but not tight. High tones of cherry and flowers and a long, drying finish.

Tightky wound. Lavender, anise, hard cherry candy, herbs. The texture and quality of tannin are really impressive. Very long detailed finish. This is a baby but phenomenal with 3 hours of air.

Nothing like drinking a library vintage at the winery! Classic Barbaresco all around and in its prime drinking window.

Incredible Montefico. Power and grace in one wine. Gorgeous, layered nose that reflected right back on the palate. Mesmerizing.

I think Montefico is one of the richer Cuvées in the PdB range. Initial response - Menthol and Mint - very savoury. Dry powdery tannins; a touch of liquorice and tar on the medium plus bodied palate. Dried cherry. Some bitterness at the finish - good grip even at 13 years. I’m not across all of the PdB Riservas but if anyone is it is probably Galloni. His description, “Imagine the precision of Ovello but with slightly darker fruit and more density and power through the middle. That’s the Montefico.”
