Pol Roger
Extra Cuvée De Réserve Vintage Brut Champagne
Tasted blind. Light straw color with vibrant bubble energy. Great nose. Notes of light citrus, some river stone, some light clay soil and a little spice. Guessed 2002 vintage but could not parse out a producer. If this base PR 2002 bottle is this good, I can’t wait to try my slumbering Winnie bottles lying in wait.

Jul 7th, 2020This 2009 was closed up and dimensionless in a way that it is unclear it will improve. Nose was good (honeysuckle, nuts, redfruity), but taste, including midpalate, mousse, and finish subpar. Had an -08 right after and what a difference a year makes (especially these years).

Jun 6th, 2020No surprise that it’d lost some if not all bubbles but it still had a depth of character that was unmistakeable. Waited too long but still enjoyed it.

Sep 21st, 2018This one sure put up a good show, striding on all clusters. From a perfectly ripe primary fruit character, through a defined secondary spectrum with fresh cream, butter and nougat, reaching all the way back home with a chalky finish. Great texture, with a persistent and fine mousse and a vibrant freshness. The wine can easily age for further development, while it will provide a good experience today.
