Vintage 2009 | Every wine taster is entitled to at least one deviation, mine is that I am not so fond of Barolo. This wine is balanced, chocolate and coffee in taste, souplesse. But also that earthy mineral stinking smell.

Decanted for 6 hrs. Tawny color, translucent. Great Barolo nose. Notes of dark fruit, rose petals, some anise and some dry brush. Nice balance of aged fruit next to a solid structure. Great finish. Great with food.

Il Ritrivo in Positano. Decanted for 45 min. Dark purple and opaque. Powerful nose. Notes of roses, dark wood, some tar, currants and a little bit of anise. Rich in the mouth. This has big broad shoulders compared to the 13 Monprivato next to it which is dainty and subtle. Gained complexity in the glass over the night. Would love to try this again on 20 years to see where it lands. Much potential ahead for this.

Sipping Fine Wine

Aldo Conterno's family has been producing and ageing the great Piedmontese wines for more than five generations. Nice floral aromas with dark berry fruits with oak notes. On the palate blackberry and ripe cherry, savory with vanilla oak spice wrapped in tight firm tannins that need at least 5 more years to start showing finesse. Lingering finish ending with fruit and earthy mineral. Let this one sit for a while. A little pricy but this is a beauty.

Well done! Strict and very classically built up flavours, this is a winner. While Cicala usually offers more immediate appeal, this one needs cellaring as it’s unusually tight on release. Still Cicala, though;)
