Belle Epoque Brut Champagne Pinot Meunier Blend

Blend of 50% Chardonnay, 45% Pinot Noir, 5% Pinot Meunier, medium gold color, fine bubbles and mousse, aromas of fresh stone fruits, warm biscuits and hints of floral. On the palate fresh fruit flavors of white peaches, pineapple, pear and baked apple with hints of citrus zest. Long elegant finish ending with rich yeasty mineral character and a touch of smoky oak. Bring on the tuna tartare!

Nose and taste of this 2008 was exactly like a 2013 we had a few weeks ago. Small intense creamy bubbles, citrus fruit driven and overall perfect, but rather unexceptional.

This is in a splendid spot right now. It’s still light, refreshing and crushable in the PJ-style and yet has a touch of added complexity thanks to some time in the cellar. In the glass, the color was light straw and the bubbles were lively. On the palate, bright citrus and white peach with a small touch of brioche; the slightest bit of nuttiness but just barely. Great minerals...again, in-line with the house style. Very well balanced. There’s a lot to like here. Paired very well with homemade Nashville Hot Chicken.

The newest release and first 2012 vintage champagne I’ve tried. It’s very linear at this early stage, still sharp as a tack with high acidity and structure masking a lot of the fruit. Very good potential, but I wouldn’t open for at least 5 more years.
