Nice aromas of mint (not positive but this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is probably mainly from Coonawarra) and cassis, black currant aromas. Medium bodied with an inner core of latent strength, inherent in most Penfolds Reds. Tastes way younger than 13 years and will cellar for at least another 10 to 15 years or more. Postscript: I thought this statement was appropriate from Penfolds First Chief Winemaker and the creator of Grange, Max Schubert said, “Penfolds different cuvées may differ in character Year by Year, but all bear an unmistakable resemblance and relationship to each other. “ This is pertinent when tasting Bin 407.

This is a very young Cabernet Sauvignon from South Australia.

Dark ruby in color with a reddish rim.

Full bodied with medium acidity.

Showing black fruits with cedar, vanilla, leather, spices, earth, chocolates, tobacco and coffee.

Long finish with round tannins and tangy cherries.

Delicious right out of the bottle, and better after 2 hours of airtime.

Shows nice complexity and mouthfeel, with a great nose. Feels more like a California Cabernet.

Nicely balanced and rich. Elegant, fruit forward and luscious.

Robert Parker 90 points. Wine Spectator 93.

Delicious right now, and will continue to age nicely in the next 15 years.

100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were aged in French and American oak barrels for 12 months.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

93 points.

$80.

A multi region blend, fruit from Barossa, McLaren Vale, Padthaway, Coonawarra and Wrattonbully vineyards, aged 12 months in both French and American oak. Deep Ruby with aromas of dark berry fruits herb and spice. On the palate black cherry and blackberry with notes of cacao, espresso and herb pepper. Vivid acidity, ripe fine tannins, long finish ending with vanilla oak and spice, very nice!

Nose even more voluptuous than previous bottles, but some astringency punching through that detracts a bit from overall yumminess. I’d say drink up.

Vintage 2012 / menthol in taste, very powerful wine but without being annoying. Fist in a velvet glove. Great balance.

Gorgeous bit of florals straight off the bat with lovely ripe dark fruits. Oak so well inter-grated and greenness nowhere to be seen. Tannins are ripe shapely with length pretty solid.

It's time for my #FridayCabernetfix. Here's a great one from Australia.

Beautiful color of dark ruby with a wide brick rim.

Strong nose of blackberries, plums, cherries, currants, oak, vanilla, licorice, spices, chocolates, tobacco, leather, bitter herbs, earth and black pepper.

Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with black currants, plums, bell pepper, vegetables, herbs, graphite, earth, dark chocolates, coffee, peppercorn and vinaigrette.

Medium finish with round, yet fine tannins, and tangy raspberries.

This 15 year old Australian Cabernet is still drinking very nicely now. Not fully balanced any longer, but still enjoyable, even by itself. Showing great complexity and mouthfeel. I loved the nose even better, and kept on smelling on it for a while.

Needs an hour to open up properly and show some tannins.

If you have any, better drink them in the next few years.

Wine Enthusiasts 89 points.

I paired it with steak and fries.
