Penfolds
Bin 23 Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir
Had a bottle at an expensive Cantonese restaurant on the Gold Coast. There wasn’t a wine on the list under $100! The markup on this Wine List was excessive. You could buy a bottle of this at Dan Murphy’s for $45. On the Wine List it was $168 - tantamount to price gouging. The wine itself drank to the bottle shop price. Bright red fruits, fresh with no great complexity. See previous note to see the various vineyards from which it was sourced. The wine list said 2021 which I ordered but out came the 2018. The 21 was unavailable apparently - a pity as the 21 was all Tasmanian fruit. Well made but restaurant experience spoiled it for us.

Apr 11th, 2023This is Penfolds best expression for Pinot Noir being made from fruit sourced in the Adelaide Hills, Henty and Tasmania. Just had a glass with the entree. Mid crimson in colour with a tawny brown rim. Aromas and flavours in the stewed red fruit spectrum. Soft tannins - drinking well now.

Apr 1st, 2021Vintage 2016 / Lots of character, though a bit shy at the moment. Perfect wine for the cellar and enjoyment in the future. Good acidity. Refinement.

Oct 30th, 2019Nose of, blackberries, dark cherries, delicate spices and bright perfumed florals. Palate is lean & dry; blackberries, dark cherries, cherries, black raspberries and pouched strawberries. Light minerality, corals as on the nose, mouthfeel is lean and round, light spice, nutmeg, clove, cinnamon, light dark rich, moist earth. Finishes lean fruity, soft spice and decent acidity. Photos of the exterior cellar and barrel room inside.

It is well made just doesn't hit the mark of a typical Pinot. Or a great Pinot.

Feb 7th, 2015Smells of Adelaide Hills pinot, but not in the good way. A bit harsh and green. Savoury sour cherry with some bitterness. Drying finish. Not very pretty.
