Blend of 55% Grenache, 40% Syrah with 5% other varieties. Ruby red color with aromas of red berry fruits with spicy notes. On the palate juicy flavors of black cherry and raspberry, adding mild spice notes. Fine tannins, good balance with acidity, medium finish ending with fruit and spice. Consistent from year to year. Easy to drink, but I’m not blown away by it. But it was simple and clear (taste wise) to play “what is this wine?” with my husband. Garnet red with slow forming, clear tears, no color variation, and no noticeable opacity. Smells of underripe blue fruit, new leather, and white mushroom (fresh). Taste of blue fruit, but as if it was quickly and briefly sautéed (flash heat), nutmeg and other baking spices. Sightly dry aftertaste but it doesn’t last. Drink this while petting a cockapoo. Like the wine, it’s a blend and is a crowd pleaser.

2018 vintage. Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre. It seems to me that you cannot go wrong with Caroline Frey. Even this organic entry level Côtes du Rhône has character. Smells like violets. Spices and clean red berries, lively acidity and enough tannic bite to keep it interesting. Great value at less than 9 euros. Abv. 14%.

Vintage 2017 / Bio, organic, made from grenache blanc, marsanne, viognier and bourboulenc. Fruity, impression of peaches. Good luncheonwine. Paired with a Grand Aïoli in restaurant Ciro’s in Anvers/Antwerpen.
