Mullineux Family Wines
Swartland Syrah

Good freshness, elegant and pure...keeps you coming back as it slowly reels you in as opposed to overwhelming. Dark red fruits like cherry and currants, peppercorn and savory spice, still elegant but persistent on the finish. My first Mullineux and am impressed, putting them on my list for the next stop to #southafrica #wine #mullineux

Focused and polished, high complexity of blue and black fruit, smoke, spice, and floral. Medium-weight, vibrant acidity, partly whole cluster. Outstanding, especially within its price and category

Jun 13th, 2017Holy shit. This could easily pass for Northern Rhône if you didn't know any better. Gamey, peppery, and luscious. Restrained in the best ways. Hooooo, girl.

From tasting of 2013 Syrah varietals. Complex nose. Olives and raisins jump out. Hints of mint. Wood chips. Medium ruby. Medium alcohol. Fun. Very easy drinking. Plum over blue fruits.

Clean pure SA Syrah with a French soul. Light but intense cherry rainbow. Needed 45 mins to open up, but none of the stinky animale I associate with the region. Give it 2-3 years but not much longer. Nice!

I had read a story about South African wines and how they were leading the pack in terms of QPR. Knowing my affinity for that, I decided to pick this up.
This is what makes Syrah or as my former country mates would say, Shiraz, one of my favorites. I think the range is far greater than almost any other grape.
Fairly translucent red/purple in the glass. Very floral nose. Rose petals dominate.
Quite elegant mouthfeel. Not heavy. Blackberry and cedar on the palate. Soft-medium tannins.
Very smooth finish with the characteristic peppery quality of Syrah. Very drinkable.
I am surprised by the 13%abv. I guess the lesson is don't judge a book by its cover.
