Swartland Chenin Blanc 2019

After trying the Aristoga blended wine last week, I was pleasantly surprised by this 100% Chenin Blanc variant – a far more enjoyable and less confused wine. Made in the typical style of the higher quality SA vineyards. This wine was a rich medium gold in appearance, medium intensity on the nose, offering up waxy yellow fruits, unripe peach. For me it still felt a little understated, lacking some needed acidity. Enjoyable wine. — 5 days ago

Penny Black Red Blend 2015

Vintage 2015 | Multi blend from Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Chenin Blanc. Lovely effort! I gave the wine 4 hours in decanter and afterwards it had a velvety taste. Good concentration, berries in smell. Paired with Côte de Boeuf from the grill, morels and sweet potato. The only point that I don’t like is high alcohol. With the food the wine gets a nice impression of chocolate and cacao. — 10 days ago

You really like these multi-blends, @Peter van den Besselaar I’ve yet to find one that resonates with me.

Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Pure dark fruit in the nose, classic Cabernet blend nose while there is also a little amount of Malbec and Petit Verdot. Souplesse ontheven mouth, easy drinking because it’s already so approachable. Clean and elegant Cabernet. 88% CS, 10% PV, 4% CF, 2% Malbec — 15 days ago

Elementis Skin Contact Chenin Blanc 2019

Tasted like straight lemon juice first sip. Less so now, but still very tart. Andrew says he likes and is very crisp and clean. Drinking but think it’s just too sour for me. Bar and garden recommendation. — 17 days ago

Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

With a nose of dried black currants,
this SA Cab has layers of pomegranate, fig, black olive, tobacco, cacao. The heavy body of this wine is awakened and lifter by the orange zest acidity.
The lingering tannins structure is firm and gripping. Ripe and ready to drink.

Wow. 1972 South Africa would be equivalent to 1960 or 1950 California or Spain. Who was making quality wine back then? Wow

Storm Point

Swartland Red Blend

What a perfect blend! Bountiful fruits of cranberry, strawberry and tart cherry followed by subtle notes of citrus, rose and spices. Smooth at first followed by a pleasant zing at the end. A sure thing! — a month ago
