Elegant. mid intensity of ruby, not so translucent. Dark cherry, dark plum, liquorice and touch of oak. Dry, mid balanced acidity, mid tannin that is slightly astringent but good thickness it generates. Though relatively high ABV well balanced Central Otago PN. It can evolve more but also enjoyable now. ABV14.0%

My lovely Mr. Spittoon gave me this bottle of Mt Difficulty 2016 Bannockburn Pinot Noir for Christmas with a pair of their Duskies sunnies that are in fact made out of used Pinot oak barrels! I’m familiar with Mt Difficulty as when I was at uni in Auckland and worked part-time at Glengarry, I use to sell their wines. They’ve always been known as a top quality Kiwi producer. They are located in Central Otago which is the world's southern-most commercial wine growing region.

In the glass this NZ Pinot is a brilliant ruby red colour with a rather farmy/earthy nose that also has notes of cherries, plums, vanilla, toasted oak and violet floral perfume. In the mouth it has a wonderful complexity to it with sweet juicy fruit, cherry chocolate, spice and elegant French oak. Definitely not a ‘difficult’ wine to drink.

All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy! #tcweekdaywine

Very easy to enjoy. Right in that “pinosity” zone, with a bit of weight and chewy structure underneath a mix of brighter red fruit and dark cherry with a touch of spice. Pretty simple and straight down the line, but good drinking.

Raspberry, black cherry, baking spice, med + acid, persistent tannin. Some heat, but not as much as I feared when seeing 14.5 ABV.
