Le Pergole Torte Sangiovese
Started off wary and cautious, then went ape shit with all the requisite autumn forest, damp earth, mature fruit, etc. Hard to ask for more. Strong ligaments, tendons and connective tissue. Minimal body fat.

Nov 15th, 2023Gorgeous tonight! Incredibly vibrant and fresh for the warm vintage. It’s so elegant and detailed with a captivating bouquet of wilted roses, red cherries, smoky herbs and mushrooms and the palate is delicate, pure and long with incisive acids, lift and layered minerality. Fantastic.

Nov 4th, 2023Still holds but needs to be drunk. No more fruit left, leather and being really light. Stage before vinegar.

Jan 29th, 2023Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim. This 7 year old is showing a great nose now.
Dry on the palate with medium plus acidity.
Showing red and black fruits with wood, earth, herbs, spices, wild flowers, chocolates, leather, tobacco leaf, dark coffee and black pepper.
This is a delicious, yet very young, Sangiovese from Chianti. Nicely balanced, powerful and tangy.
This 2016 vintage holds great promise for aging gracefully over the next two decades. However, at present, it has yet to fully reach its full potential. Would be nice to revisit it in 5 years.
Would have been nice to have it decanted for a few hours, but it wasn't my call. I had it blind, so it is what it is.
I paired it with a Charcuterie board of meats and cheeses.
100% Sangiovese grapes.
14% alcohol by volume.
92 points.
$350.

it took almost 20 years, but now i taste what all the fuss is about. all that overbearing new oak sweetness is in decline and reveals beautifully structured sangiovese fruit.

Dec 17th, 2022Splash decanted and served immediately; enjoyed over the next four hours. On the nose, it smells like 2015…gorgeous and giving with fresh, ripe cherry, dry earth and green herbs. The bouquet opened up over time and just seemed to gain power and intensity adding blood orange and red flowers. On the palate, this is bone-dry with silky texture and huge structure which also seemed to go from strength to strength. The finish is long and ever so satisfying. Drink now with a lot of patience or enjoy through 2040.

Nov 3rd, 2022It is glorious Pergole Torte. Full fermentation in cement after which it receives 18 months in barrique. Multiple layers of dark fruit and cherries. You can almost bite the wine. Smooth but yet with a lot of grip. bravo.

Sep 15th, 2022Typical pergola torte. Nicely balanced acidity, full of fresh cherries both black and red. Fragrant, drinks easily but will keep long. Good structure.

Sep 14th, 2022Certainly one of the best representations of Sangiovese there is, the 2014 vintage is perfect for my tastes with stunning elegance and transparency, almost Burgundian in style. It wafts a seductive and perfumed bouquet of cool wild berry fruit with blood orange, baking spice and roses. The palate has impeccable detail and focus, with a silky texture, smooth tannins and a long and vibrant finish. Excellent already, with a long life ahead!
