The vinuous review is a bit harsh. This is a plush style so I did not have high expectations - but it was not bad.

Really dig this wine. Wish there was a little more tannins.

Super bang for the buck. I see Josh Reynolds puked all over this (14 vintage) - he’s behaving like @Paul Treadway Huntington Beacher. We always enjoy this convict. It showed good balance, deeply extracted, along with firm tannins. It’s fun to taste and will cellar for a few years.

On the nose; dark nearly tarry currants, ripe blackberries, mix of blue fruits, black plum, plum, black raspberries, black olive, spice, lavender, dark chocolate, mocha, hints of vanilla, anise, pepper, rich dark soil and dry crushed rocks. The fruits on the first sip are very sweet but mellow as it opens up. The body is medium. It’s also very rich and well extracted! The tannins still have some teeth. The fruits are darker than nose. Ripe blackberries, blueberries, creamy black raspberries, black plum, plum, dark cherries, raspberries haunt the background, lots of dark chocolate, mocha, clove, nutmeg, vanilla and heat intensify spice that lifts off the palate as it sets, burnt tobacco, black olive, crushed rocks, cracked pepper, underbrush, chewy leather, lavender, good round acidity with a long, beautiful, well balanced, strong structured, lengthy, elegant finish. This 05 has another 5-7 years of life in it. A steal for $20 upon release. For me, it’s noticeable flaw...it’s still hot (not throat burning but none the less hot) and showing the 15.5% even after 10 years in the bottle. I would not wanted to have had this wine in its youth. 😖

Blackberries, plum, spice, dark chocolate and black pepper round out this dark purple, medium acidity wine. Lovely weekend wine!

MD wines are always a little over-the-top, but this one has little redeeming decadence.

Fantastic buy. Even age worthy for a few years. I would consider it an everyday wine with weekend taste.
