Mocali
Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese
Served double-blind. Ruby red with a translucent core, a very slight watery edge with no signs of particles or gas. Medium-plus viscosity. On the nose, largely red fruits with some brambles, dried herbs, dry earth and some spices leading me to believe that this may see some oak. On the palate, confirmed the red and dark fruits, confirmed the spices along with dried herbs. Probably sees a percentage of new oak mixed with used oak, probably barrique. Loads of acid; almost enamel stripping and firm tannic structure. Fairly long finish. Initial thoughts were Sangiovese. I called 2016 Chianti Classico…wasn’t too far off.

Classic BdM. Medium/full, dark cherry, earthy, dusty tannin. Well balanced throughout. Nice compliment to an excellent filet and seafood pasta.

Jan 6th, 2020Still a good amount if life ahead. Showing all of the tertiary notes of mushroom and soy, while still maintaining bright sour cherry and bramble notes. Worked well with chicken Parm and roasted brassicas!

2 people found it helpfulApr 16th, 2014Dark purple and shows it on the palate with integrated tannins, sour cherry, sweet tobacco box, cedar, and a hint of blackberries. Aroma is sweet but edgy, incorporating some graphite and toast. Lovely pairing with ribeye and an excellent value.

The nose is more delicate based on what I'm used to. Red fruits, with maybe red licorice. The palette is powerful and tight, as the tannins are underripe. Love the acid structure, complimented with raspberries and capsicum. Lovely long finish, but this needs another five years to show its true colors. Having said that, this will be excellent in time.

Dec 12th, 2015Impressive. Taut, but well balanced. This glides across the palette - loving it. This is not a one night stand. Serious brunello drinkers take one step forward!
