A Shabu Shabu lunch with a .375 of Melville Pinot on a cold June gloom afternoon! This Pinot is so consistent and the dark cheery is dominate. Happy Sunday.

This 2016 has impressed me each time I’ve had it. Now nearly 7 years old it’s complexity is showing and remains fresh and vibrant. Stemmy fresh forest aromas with allspice hints. Every red fruit imaginable but always in whispers never hits you over the head, has Melville’s classic blood orange peel aspect with a clean cool lingering finish that takes you down as many subtle flavor snd aroma corridors as you allow yourself to go. A hint of iodine sea brine tops it all off. Remarkable. Sta Rita is the best USA AVA period.

Different than the typical pinot, jammy, smokey/oakey and just generally delicious. More trannic than a typical pinot, but well balanced. Has a medium body and a nice finish that balances the flavors.

Translucent cherry red color. Nose of earthy strawberry and spice. Taste of red fruits with a long orange, tart cherry, tea, cola and perfume finish. Gets better with every sip.

Unbelievable. Gets better with every sip.

Eyes:
Light, ruby red. A bit ruddy. Thin-bodied.

Nose:
That signature Melville fishy-sea salt smell. Clay? Subtle at first, but hints of orange peel, candied red fruit, and dried flowers. Wet leaves and earth.

Mouth:
Dry and a bit creamy (malo?). Spicy and savory - cloves, orange peel, coriander. Hints of dried red fruit at the finish.
