Sipping Fine Wine

Nestled deep in the Chiles Valley District. The land around Maxville Lake was formerly known as Rancho Catacula. In 1844, Governor Manuel Micheltorena gave Joseph Chiles the 8,000 acre Rancho Catacula Land Grant. The winery was purchased by Maxville Lake in 2014. Deep red with red fruit aromas and sweet spice. The Cabernet Franc is combined with 5% Petite Sirah, delivering flavors of cranberry and sweet currants with vanilla spice. Medium finish with integrated tannins ending with oak tones.

Oaky flavors. I smell something like menthol maybe? Pretty tannic. Red fruits, dark fruits.

Underscoring the need to dive deeper into Cab Francs. So unique and enjoyable. A nice departure from Cab Savs dominating the cellar and dinner table

Not a bad offering for the 2014, vanilla, cedar, honey, oak, bright and juicy fruits on the palate, more acid than I’m used to on a new world Cab Franc but still very enjoyable. 14.5%

Yummy kind of spicy cab franc. Not super funky. Pairs well with cheese. Buy more!

Wild cherry and cocoa on the nose. Surprisingly fruit forward — heavy black raspberries and cherries. Medium bodied tannic structure with a slightly astringent mouthfeel. Nice finish.

Aroma of cherry, blackberry and alcohol. Tastes of chewy raspberries with cocoa and a plum finish.
