Blueberries and bell peppers, good mouthfeel. Nice example of Cali Cab Franc.

As a Loire addict I nevertheless occasionally dabble in new world cab franc...this one is delicate but the red and purple fruit is plump and mouth coating, with dried chilis and herbs, stewed tomato and tobacco. Impressive

2011 Cabernet Franc - green herb - green bell pepper - a little sharp, though not in a good hop way as there is no supporting fruit flavor - I'm trying to understand the 'new' California - trying!

The clippers give it away every time, this is the Cabernet Franc from Matthiasson and a firm nod of appreciation to its home back in the Loire. The one critique I would say is that is tastes like it was picked early (as expected from this producer) but maybe a touch too early as the tannins are a little drying and the acidity a little too noticeable, overpowering the finish taking it a little our of balance. A noble effort however as the right fruit and spice aromatics and flavors are present. Have a classic Chinon or if you have had one you know what I mean.

That's some good Cab Franc. Blue fruits on the nose and palate. Bright, yet rich at the same time. Really well done. Incredible balance. Just wow.

Certainly the prettiest Napa Cab Franc I've encountered. Floral aromatics really popped after an hour of opening.

Can Franc 2011 from Matthaiasson - so delicious. All the balance and charm you would expect from the Loire with a California soul. I would drink this every day. A pleasure to drink.

2012 was a lush, fruit-forward year in Napa Valley. Matthaisson wines, even the reds exhibit lower alcohol than is typical in the region, in this case 12.5% and are more delicate. The 2012 Cabernet Franc was 50% whole cluster fermented and has feminine aromatics of rose petals, red berries, incense and Saigon cinnamon. Medium-bodied yet weightless, with softly structured tannins, moderate acidity and an inviting inner-sweetness at the core, this is a wine I'd love to revisit. Sample
