Marqués de Riscal
Herederos del Marqués de Riscal Rioja Tempranillo Rosé Gran Reserva
Compared to some previous vintages, this isn’t cutting it. That’s surprising as you don’t think they’d let this change too much every year. Maybe my palate is different?
It has some cherry and tobacco, but I’m overwhelmed by the vanilla and leather. It’s medium acidity but a heavyweight and perhaps over saturated or too immature. Time will tell.

The nose, oh, the nose, if the nose could talk, it would wax poetic.
Cedar, fresh herb, blackberry, currant, with perfect acidity to oak balance. This is such a harmonious wine, and was an amazing place to stay.

Ever so g-durn yummilicious? Also I just realized why in two recent blind tasting practices I thought it was Sangiovese: garnet color and balsamic vinegar af. This is a smidge raisinated and the tannins would (now) keep me from guessing Italy and DAMN please tell me your favorite thing to pair with rioja I’m plotting a vegetarian sub.

Jan 2nd, 2019Interesting color Tempranillo gives rose. It falls into an orangish hue. Watermelon that comes from close to the rhine. Orange, orange peel, strawberry, soft irony minerals, feels chalky on the mid palate, quince paste, good acidity and a clean refreshing tangy finish. 14 vintage.

Pop and pour. Great upon opening with loads of wet earth, dark fruit and a touch of sweet American oak (in a subtle way). Started to lose its energy after a couple hours.
