This evening I opened the 2018 Marqués de Murrieta Finca Ygay Reserva Rioja. This is a blend of 86% Tempranillo, 8% Graciano, 4% Mazuelo and 2% Garnacha.

On the nose there is cherry, raspberry, anise, potpourri, black pepper, baking spice, cedar box and dusty dry earth.

On the palate I find raspberry, cherry, black pepper, tomato, balsamic, red currant, olive and nice earth.

This is a medium bodied wine a smooth velvety mouthfeel medium + acidity and medium + fine supple tannins which seamlessly moves into a long red fruit anise finish. Let's everyone have a wonderful relaxing weekend. Please as always stay safe and healthy. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

Dark plum, spices, violets and roses. Porter and intense. Great balance.

Strong, vibrant red fruit. Baked allspice & currants, but bigger berries flood palate. Decent acidity. Accompanied our baked desserts at end of meal. Not my go to Rioja producer but I can see how this can work.

Popped and poured, consumed over two days. The 2016 Marqués de Murrieta Reserva pours a dark ruby color with translucent core and watery rim; medium viscosity. Stains the glass a bit. Medium+ intensity. Dark cherry, blackberries, pipe tobacco, black licorice, fresh herbs, baking spices, butter soft leather and some cedar. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin, medium acid. Again with the dark cherry and blackberry fruit, some balsamic notes and spices. A very giving wine that’s so easy to enjoy. Outrageous value.

The weekend has started and I have opened the 2015 Marqués de Murrieta Finca Ygay Reserva Rioja. A blend of 80% Tempranillo, 12% Graciano, 6% Mazuelo and 2% Garnacha.

On the nose this is a beautifully complex aroma with black cherry, blackberry, plum, licorice, perfumed notes, violets, spice, vanilla, some oak and earthiness.

O the palate is black cherry, blackberry, plum, star anise, clove, spice, oak, vanilla and earth.

This wine is full bodied silky mouthfeel with high acidity and medium + fine integrated tannins that move wonderfully into a long dark fruit licorice finish. Have a wonderful weekend everyone, we are moving into a deep freeze and snow for the weekend. Please stay safe and healthy and enjoy yourselves. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

The better steak wine over the 2009 Ormes de Pez but, not the more beautiful, elegant wine.

The 2010 Rioja marries the Wagyu Ribcap while showing its Ranchero characteristics.

The palate shows tumble-weed, tannin fruits that are; brambly, ripe, slightly candied; blackberriesblack raspberries, dry, dark cherries with skin, ruby, black plums, very w/ ripe strawberries. Tumbleweed, straw, dark spice, tough leather, clove, sage, dry clay & top soil, crushed rocks, black pepper, dark, berry cola, mint, oak barrel powder, used charcoal with candied florals that are fresh & withering; dark, red, purple & blue. The acidity is top flight. The long finish is well balanced fruit & earth, persisting nicely falling onto earth & dark spices.
