My first time trying Dalmau; arguably the most modern expression from Marqués Murrieta. The fruit for Dalmau comes from 70+ year old vines planted in the Canajas vineyard.

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2019 pours a deep ruby/purple with an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with significant staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe, black cherry, plum, tobacco, cedar, and fine baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. A polished wine that’s still very much and infant. Drink now with patience and through 2044. Bottle No. 14135/15526

Vintage 2016 | Absolutely beautiful, st Julien frivolity, very intens and perfumed | paired with Boeuf Bourguignon | I did not recognize / determine this as Rioja, was obsessed with left bank Bordeaux in my head. Wine of the Night. For me unknown, but o man so good.

No formal notes. Full flavoured - plum, earth and cherry. Would go with many foods. Have to catch a flight to Bologna.

Deep Ruby color and intense juicy black fruit. Aromas of plum, cedar, black Cherry, blackberry, vanilla. High acid, medium tanning and full body. 14.4% abv so a bit of a brooding monster. Long finish- very much an ultra modern evocation of Rioja with 71% Tempranillo, 15% Cabernet and 14% Graciano

In 2002, when Murrieta celebrated its 150th anniversary. Vicente Dalmau appointed winemaker María Vargas who played a particularly important role in producing this wine. Very well preserved bottle. Needs at least 40 min before drinking. Strong fruitful flavor. Plums, blackberries, vivid palette, well structured nose, inviting.

Almost a Burgundian nose with red florals. Rich, thicker dark and red fruit entry. The red fruit recessed to the back palate. Red cherries come on strong on the long finish. Soft & well intergraded tannins, some black wet earth, soft leather and a dry finish. Needs some more time in bottle but will develop into a really nice wine. Then, maybe add two tenths of a point to my score.
