Gran Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend
This is fine, just not close to the quality and harmony of La Rioja Alta

Jun 18th, 2022Pretty good, I think, but I’m a hard sell because I’m not a Tempranillo fan (when I buy Rioja I usually try to search out Garnacha-based wines). Medium intensity nose is mainly raw oak (French-seeming, not old-school American). Some dark, sultry berry fruit, and a bit of moist garden soil. In the mouth, the fruit seems a bit pulpy (not to say tannic) and seems a little lifeless. There is tannin, however, and it comes on strong in the finish, which is a tad short.

1 person found it helpfulAug 2nd, 2022A blend of Tempranillo with 10% Mazuelo and Graciano, with aging, 50% in new French oak. Deep Ruby with ripe red and black fruit aromas and toasty spice. The palate shows plum and blackberry flavors with smoke, cacao and spice. Vivid acidity, firm ripe tannins, integrated lending to a medium+ finish ending with some earthy notes. Just starting to drink well, a few more years will benefit. Nice value for a Gran Reserva.

Dec 16th, 2023Very nice with prime filet mignion, convex roasted sliced potatoes, fresh new asparagus, and small yellow zucchini. Some fruit and mild tannins.

May 15th, 2022A dark, earthy Rioja that pairs excellently with strongly flavored or fatty foods.
I taste Liquorice root, dark loamy soil, and charred oak.
To be honest I expected more from a Gran Reserva- as in 'this is the best vintage you've had in a decade?' maybe given more time in the bottle some more magic would grow

Plum, blackberry, new American oak. I had this as a 2010 Spanish Tempranillo

Jan 9th, 20222012 vintage. Super smooth nose and body. Delicious but the palate semi-destroyed by the ol(d)e hot pizza burning the roof of the mouth syndrome so other specifics hard to come by currently. Grrr…

Dec 21st, 2021Paid $30 for a bottle at total wine in Florida. Drank at Daria‘s for her 65th birthday. Delightful!! Better than the reserva, but not sure it’s worth the extra $12 a bottle.
