The 2021 Chianti Classico Riserva Marchese Antinori is particularly strong this year. Red cherry, plum, blood orange and pomegranate infuse the 2021 with notable depth. French oak is better integrated than in the past. There's less extraction today and quite a bit more finesse. This is a terrific showing from Antinori. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, July 2024)

The 2020 Chianti Classico Riserva Marchese Antinori, all from the Tignanello estate, is packed with black cherry, spice, new leather, licorice and dried flowers. A dollop of Merlot adds plush contours, but this is a pretty pushed style, that works well here. Ideally, though, it would be nice to see more Sangiovese and Tignanello character. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, August 2023)

RL and I were totally thrown off by this blind. We were right on a Bordeaux blend, but got to give credit to ourselves for thinking it might not have been French due to a sheen of varnish on the fruit. I was right on the Super Tuscans (pretty close in some sense) before it was revealed to be a Chianti. What! Having said all that, it might have been the addition of 10% Cabernet Sauvignon in the wine that misled us.

Wine of the night for most on the table and I can see why. By the end of the night, it was crunchy with lifted dark fruits, cedar, herbs, leather, and some mineral tones. Still a little too rich and concentrated for me at this stage, but there’s definitely some underlying energy present.

Wicked Chianti. Wickedddddd!

Blind tasted this, could tell it was a Chianti right away by the sour cherry. So complex. Leather. Tobacco. Oak. I regret not buying a couple of these. Good to drink now. This will age gracefully over the next decade.

Made with fruit from Tignanello estate, mostly Sangiovese with a splash of Cab Sauv, and a few others, aged in French and Hungarian oak for 12 months, cooler vintage than ‘17, lighter fruit character. Deep Ruby with aromas of red berry fruits with notes of floral and sweet spices. On the palate flavors of raspberry, cherry and red plum with licorice, cacao and vanilla oak. Firm rich tannins, long finish, ending with fruit, toasty vanilla and earthy tobacco. Good now but will improve over next 5 years.

Savory and meat, hint of sweet spices on the nose. Sweet red fruits and spices on the palate, very nice and juicy but somehow the aromas end quite abruptly. The tannins and acidity stayed.
