M. Chapoutier
Le Méal Ermitage Syrah
Very deep fruit, salinity. Gorgeous substance, still very young. Wait a while but this is very good.

Mar 1st, 2021Dark scarlet tawny, almost opaque. Strongly scented. Notes of kirsch, dark soaked cherries, blue fruit, herbs, and some pine wood. Powerful in the mouth. Almost over the top. A bit hot and Port-like, and a bit too stewy to enjoy unless accompanied with something like cheese to tone it down. Representative of the vintage, but not my preferred style.

Oct 26th, 2019Tasted next to 99 Morodoree. This was much more savage and intense. Very rich and still young. Fruit and oak at the forefront (plum). Drinks well now but needs time. Not typical hermitage. Quite sweet.

Oct 30th, 2018A truly exceptional wine built for the ages. Not sure I can say anything different than the critics, gave it a 5 hour decant, it’s off to the races. Amazing on all level. Has another 15-20 years easy.

Nov 20th, 2017From the hill behind the river town of Tain l'Hermitage; AC #ermitage well occupied by two families; #chapoutier and #jaboulet; this #2006 shows its hot climate home on the terraces; #prune and #richberry ; 13.5% gives linear tannins to make it so magnificent #oakintegrated
