Luigi Baudana (G.D. Vajra)
Serralunga d' Alba Barolo Nebbiolo
The 2020 “del Comune di Serralunga d’Alba” is a traditional blend of three MGAs from Serralunga: mostly younger vines from Baudana, Cerretta and now, some fruit from Costabella. Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of several hours. The 2020 pours a beautiful garnet with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with tart and ripe notes of Morello cherry, pomegranate, talcum powder, red roses, dry earth and old wood. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and slightly savory. I took the opportunity to enjoy this alongside the “Baudana” and this didn’t have the same elegance but it’s a very complete and balanced Barolo. Drink now through 2040.

Dec 2nd, 2024Popped and poured; no formal notes. The 2019 Luigi Baudana “Serralunga d’Alba” shows bright red and dark fruits, roses, tar and dried earth. Tannins are high and acid is at least medium+ but one can tell that the typical elegance of Baudana is present. A baby and while it’s very good right now, patience will be rewarded. Should drink well past 2040.

Big, structured, and meant for the long haul. Classic Serralunga.

Jul 23rd, 2015Wonderfully balanced, not too bold, lean and mean. Wish I would've had it on the dinner table!
