Louis Jadot
Clos Saint Jacques Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Pinot Noir
My first time trying this wine. Disappointing. I knew it wasn’t going to be spectacular because it’s 2012 vintage. Difficult year. The wine is kind of harsh, dry and hard to drink. I don’t think it’s shut down or will be improving with more bottle age. This was the last year Jacques Lardiere made wine at the domaine. I’m not sure if he is retired or if he’s now working & consulting in Oregon. I opened my last bottle of Jadot 2014 CSJ about a month ago & that was very good. When it first shipped over it was very thin & simplistic but some of the dark/black fruit the CSJ cru is known for was starting to emerge from that bottle.

Jun 21st, 2023Colour is mid crimson - almost transparent. First impressions after 20 minutes in the decanter - an intense red fruited perfume. A barely medium weight palate with those same strawberry and raspberry notes together with earthy/forest floor. Medium plus intensity. A good if not great Premier Cru. Jancis made the comment “What a Vineyard “ admittedly in relation to Rousseau’s version of CSJ.

Feb 19th, 2023Gave it 3 hours of air in a decanter. Dark tawny. Nice interesting nose, not hot or over the top. Notes of black and red fruit, dark earth, some wood and some spice. Decent acidity matches with ample fruit. Given the vintage I had low expectations but this has turned out nicely.

Aug 9th, 2020This wine tastes like a South African Pinotage. It smells pretty good. I’m getting some mint, black licorice, and cranberry aromas from this bottle. Flavors of tart cranberries and herbs. It’s a refreshing summer red wine. This bottle is showing a lot better than the last one I opened. Unfortunately the 11 vintage will never be great. Tasted 7/13/20

Jul 13th, 2020Aromas of cherry candy, berries and forest floor. The green and tart flavors have disappeared with bottle age. 2014 CSJ from Jadot has gained complexity and depth showing rounder fruit flavors. In the mouth you get layers of blackberries and sweet raspberry. I like the silky smooth texture, heavy berry flavor and the extremely long finish. Tasted 7/9/20

Jul 9th, 202013 Jadot Clos Saint Jacques.
This tastes kind of similar to the 11 vintage. Not as green, a little more fruit/ripeness. Definitely easier to drink. The wine has a pretty floral nose and some strawberry fruit. Not a bad bottle from a tough vintage. Tasted 2/22/20
