The 2017 Boca is delicate and understated, almost surprisingly so given the dry, warm year. Crushed rose petal, white pepper, cedar and sweet pipe tobacco lend aromatic brilliance to this weightless, wonderfully expressive wine. The Le Piane Boca has a track record of aging exquisitely. I bet that will be the case here as well. I recently opened the 2006, as I wanted to drink a slightly mature wine from the estate. Well, I was way off, as the 2006 is still very, very young! I love Boca. This is mineral-forward with red fruits playing the supporting role. Of course beautiful acidity, which I love. Needed decanting.

Seems fully mature. Complex nose shows wet earth, a little mushroom, and some macerated cherry underneath. Still some tannin left, but complex flavors show tart cherry, loads of minerally earth, and underbrush. Very distinctive.

Fantastic! This Nebbiolo-based red from the Boca commune is tightly coiled at the moment, needs decanting. Nose of black cherries and cloves. Beautifully defined on the palate, moderately high acidity makes this both a wonderful food wine and a long ager. Tannins are fine, with the quality of Italian plum skins and black tea. Medium bodied, with a moderately lengthy finish.
