J. J. Prüm’s 2009 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabinett sports a fairly vibrant green / yellow hue. Soft, caressing aromas of cardamom and Earl grey tea take some coaxing from the glass, alongside lemon meringue and red apples. A faint hint of petrol completes a nose that’s complex but also incredibly youthful - hard to believe this wine is 12 years of age.

The palate is quite sweet, showing quite fruity for this style and tasted blind I would have likely guessed Spätlese. But it has great breadth and mouth filling acidity. Again, I am fairly astounded by this wine’s youth. I perhaps expected more tertiary notes - will it ever age?

Berg tasty. Stone fruit that is not overripe. Sweet but not over sweet. Could use a touch more mineral. Like it a lot

2009 vintage. At perfect crossroads of age and youthfulness. Showing Prüm typicity with spönti and leesy aromas on the nose. Strong apricot, poached pear, orange peel, Gala apple, white flowers, orange blossoms, and crushed rocks on the palate. Starting to develop secondary notes of melted plastic or oil, but still very vivid acidity. Long finish and very enjoyable.

Aromatics are undeniable. Apricot laced florals which jump from the glass. That lushness follows to the palate with a tinctured oily character on the texture. Underneath it all is a shock of tension & acidic energy. Prum always delivers.
