Bernkasteler Badstube Auslese Riesling

Despite having leaked the bottle showed brilliantly. Auslese can withstand a lot of mismanagement and turn out fine. I’ve had this since release and it hasn’t been through ideal cellaring circumstances for maybe the first 3 years I had it. Glorious nose of apple pie, pie crust, insane aromas, just insane. Tobacco. Herbs. Maybe weed. Tree bark. Dusty wood dust. Seaweed. So insanely complex. This wine is fully secondary, with hints of possibly tertiary. Floral, spacious and just haunting. So insane. Wow. Wow. What incredible insane inner mouth cotton candy, confectionary aromas. Juicy, opulent, 4 dimensional. Wow. Elegant and complex and sweet like cake. Just the most uncanny and deliciously mature Riesling I’ve had in years. Genius.

Not my favorite vineyard from Prüm, nevertheless a good Auslese. Fresh, clean, missing a bit of the acidity on the palate.

Lovely balance of mineral, citrus and honeyed fruit with a compelling but not overdone sweetness. Vibrant.

Even though it was still showing some sulphur in the nose, this was one of the best bottles of the tasting--a classic middle #Mosel and a truly outstanding 2005--one of the finest I've yet tasted--AWESOME!!! #GermanWineSociety
