Jacquesson & Fils
Cuvée No. 744 Extra Brut Champagne Blend

My wife and I met at a Super Bowl party in 2005 and were married 6 months later. This was popped and poured at halftime to celebrate 20 years of us. No formal notes due to the setting and circumstances but this was absolutely delicious. I found it to be a lot brighter than the previous three editions; showing the freshness and energy of the base (2016) vintage. More citrus and minerals than autolytic and oxidative. Complex and ever so yummy. Drink now through 2036.

Jul 8th, 2023If you want to know what my style of champagne is, look no further. A pale shade of lemon in the glass with pretty effusive perlage to begin with. The nose is outrageous right out of the gate with citrus aromas. Golden apples and lemons abound with marzipan complimenting. Grapefruit really comes alive after some time in the glass with more fresh biscuits and mild spice. Honeydew and melon notes are superb here.
These non vintage vintage champagnes from Jacquesson have been on my radar for quite some time. Though I think they’re on everyone’s radar to be honest. Deliciously stark acidity and hyper focused with a minuscule dosage. Based on the 2016 and composed of 45/35/20 CH/PN/PM from Dizy, Ay, Hautvillers, Oiry, and Avize. Bright and vivid, this is so pure and fresh with a great amount of depth.
Reserve wines make all the difference in champagne. Such profundity and a nice level of complexity to be found here. Savory notes on the palate to match the chalky minerality. A feast for the senses, the elegance and purity from this cuvée really sets it apart. I don’t need to tell anyone to go grab these, because everything Jacquesson produces is already hard to come by.

It's not a secret that I love this producer. I started to appreciate Champagne with his Cuvée 742, so now I consider it my duty to drink every new release. Based on 2016, spent 36 months sur lie. Toast, citrus, white flowers, chalk, apple seeds. Fresh, expressive and delicious. Still young, needs more time in the bottle.
