Decanted 2.5 hours prior to service. The 2016 Barrosu “Riserva Franzisca” pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears and some signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe and desiccated strawberry and bramble fruit, red flowers, black pepper, Twizzlers, leather, star anise, and granite rock. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium and there is good balanced despite the high alcohol. A lovely pairing with malloreddus. Drink now through 2031.

Really nice concentration - almost amarone-like, with dried fruit, raisins, dates. Delicious tho - even at 15.5% abv, pretty darn balanced.

Not a fan. Basically hits you in the face on every single level. Tannins are a 10, Fruit is a 10, etc. etc.
