Pretty and interesting. Lighter in a good way.

Cherry-watermelon red-licorice orange-spice summer glou glou. Just get it and chill it. A return to greatness after an overtly mineral 2019 release (still yummy), and almost as good as the 2018. Piemonte Bojo!

This is delicious. Take the full symphony of a good Vajra Nebbiolo, add a bunch more violins, winds and crash cymbals; get rid of all but a few cellos and basses. High toned and super enjoyable showing all the fruit and floral notes you expect (sweet almost medicinal cherry and roses) dialed up to 10 with ringing juicy acid and enough tannin to keep it from feeling shrill. Fruit-driven finish almost feels a touch off-dry. Juicy and fun but with enough structure to cut through some fat, I’ll come back to this for another weeknight pasta or grilled chicken and veggies.

I rather like the retro writing on the label of this new wine from Vajra. It reminds me of the special anniversary 2011 from Scavino. Apparently Nebbiolo used to be made like this quite often. It's light bodied, with candied fruit and an attractive rose note. Decent alternative to a rosé in the summer.

This is the "Cuvée J.C." Meant to mimic Jeffersonian-era wines. Light in body with a deep rose color. Notes of raspberry and ripe cherry. With a little time there are characteristic notes of tar and rose petal. A nice tannic bite. Halfway between a rose and a red but Nebbiolo all the way.

The 2022 Nebbiolo Clarè J.C. is a knockout on the nose. It’s silky, enveloping and shows a pretty inner sweetness. Wild berry fruit and exotic spice slowly saturate the palate. The 2022 finishes lightly structured yet full of mouth-watering tension. The drinkability factor is off the charts. $22.00 (Eric Guido, Vinous, June 2023)

Made in an unorthodox style with a secondary ferment - wow so unusual

The 2019 Langhe Nebbiolo JC bridges the gap between Red and Rosé. A touch of whole clusters adds sweet and savory herbs to crushed raspberry and strawberry fruits. The finish is long and lightly structured, displaying a lasting and unmistakable note of red licorice with hints of spiced orange. $22.00 (Eric Guido, Vinous, July 2020)
