Deep Ruby with a slightly tawny rim. This would’ve been red fruited with raspberries in its youth but much more savoury at 25 years of age with just a trace of dried raspberry. A slight tarry note on the back palate which is totally balanced and a class act. With more air there were aromatics of a little pipe tobacco, leather and even boot polish Barb thought. Fine yet firm tannins. A privilege to drink this famous wine from a good vintage.

Slightly bitter at the edges. Some dark wood, tar, tangy plummy fruit, some prune, dried herbs. Interesting stuff

Lots of fun bottles were popped at Al’s hosting this past weekend for his birthday celebration. All were served blind. 1 sparkler, 2 whites, 6 reds and 1 dessert wine.
This one was a bit of an oddball. Most were between burgundy or Barolo, but the one thing we all had in common was thinking this was at least 20+yrs old. It tasted, by flavor and even texture, like I was sipping/chewing on rose petals. Lots of sediment. Tar, black tea and herbs on the nose with a classic cherry tobacco finish. Don’t have a lot of experience with this wine to know how it ages. I called this old Barolo.

Structured and lots of tannins...notes of dried black mission figs, dried black cherries, rose pedals, forest floor, licorice
