Gaja's 2016 Barbaresco is positively stellar. A wine of poise and grace, the 2016 has so much to offer. Expressive spice and floral notes open up first, but what really stands out is the wine's nuance and delineation. There is a sense of translucency to the 2016 that is impossible to miss. Sweet red cherry, mint, cinnamon and rose petal develop in the glass, adding further shades of nuance. Quite simply, the 2016 is one of the very finest Gaja Barbarescos in recent memory. This is such a gorgeous wine. Don't miss it. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, November 2019)

Always on point...red fruit, black tea, savory, big tannin and acid yet so drinkable...

Soft and pretty. Delicate raspberry, black pepper, some green stuff. This is slightly cloudy and diffuse. Not intense but very delicate and pretty.

My boy @Rick K landed in Detroit. Drew and I came to open up a can of whoop ass on his own pool table!
We also opened up on his cellar. This Gaja is singing right now. Nose displays blue fruits with saddle leather and fresh cigars. Mid-palate is so delicate and poised - almost weightless. Palate is soft and linear with roasted chestnuts, and maraschino cherries. Finishes with sage notes and brown sugar.
Just for the record, there’s no shame in my pool game!

Deep and purple. Violets and a richer plummy palate with a lighter cherry note. Oak resolving- pretty evolved considering its age. Quite unlike the others in its depth and thickness but tasty.

Perfumed with roses, muted black tea , leather, and red dried cherries...tannins powerful but ever so smooth and acid to match..

Today's wine we opened was the 2014 Gaja Barbaresco. This wine is everything you would expect from the Gaja family wineries and from Barbaresco in the Piedmont region of Italy.

The nose has wonderful rich red fruit of cherry, raspberry, strawberry, currant, licorice, spice and dusty earth.

The palate has an elegant finesse of red fruits, maraschino cherry, red raspberry, strawberry, red currant, spice, licorice, a hint of pepper and rich earth.

This wine is medium bodied that is well balanced with medium + acidity and medium + fine grained tannins that lead to a long fruit filled finish. Have a wonderful weekend and please be safe with all the weather that is happening around the country. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷
