Calm and poised. A little tight. Some gnarly undertow and contained inky fruit. Less pretty than the other 01’z alongside.

The 2020 Barbaresco is a very young wine. In most years, the Gaja Barbaresco is quite showy, but the 2020 clearly needs time. There's terrific fruit intensity, but the aromatics aren't quite expressive. These days the Gaja wines have less oak imprint, which pushes the fruit forward, but also yields a wine that is a bit more austere in the early going. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, October 2023)

Earth driven - softening by the moment - more evolved than expected

Very pale and rather light wine, question whether this has aging potential. Drinks well now.

Pretty plummy fruit. Really stunning and clear, lifted fruit. Hints of roses, wild strawberry. Something great about this. A really well kept bottle.

Mellow and rounded. Delicate edges. A real gnarly undertow. Pretty and long and delicious. Quite light

black cherry, damson, dried herbs. Light and focused and lifted high toned acidity

some dust and gnarly blue fruit. A nice mid palate. Long and focused
