The 2016 Figgins Red Wine is a stunning new bottling by superstar winemaker Chris Figgins. On the nose you can really smell the Petit Verdot undertones as this shows off gorgeous blackberry compote with blueberry pie, sagebrush and green pell pepper aromas that all build marvelously in the glass. The palate is gorgeous, showing a silky texture and wonderful sense of minerality. A bright beam of salinity runs through this beautiful wine, slowly unveiling bright black cherry and Turkish coffee flavors that collide with blueberry pie and Chinese black tea flavors. Polished and layered, this is seriously good in its youth but it will evolve well for decades to come. Drink 2020-2040- 95

Just can’t get over the tannic structure of this wine. Not sure there is enough time to resolve the tannins.

The Figgins Estate Vineyard is a high elevation site in the Walla Walla Valley, planted to Bordeaux varietals. The Estate Proprietary Red utilizes Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot and was aged for 22 months in largely new French oak prior to bottling. Needing more than an hour decant, the wine slowly releases bright red cherry, dill, sandalwood, and black tea aromatics that build in the glass. The palate is silky smooth, delivering a nice combination of red and dark fruits with black tea, anise and smoky undertones shining through as well. Bright and flavorful, this excellent effort will cellar marvelously for the next fifteen to twenty years. Drink 2019-2035- 93

Medium purple hue, ruby rim variation. Medium / heavy tearing. Medium extraction. Moderate aromas of candied blackberry, strawberry rhubarb pie, eucalyptus, mint, cedar, oak, and allspice. Soft and velvety on the palate, more oak-forward with loads of baking spices: cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg, and fresh black fruit and molasses. Medium tannins. A beauty from Walla Walla Valley with predominately Cabernet Sauvignon, but also Petit Verdot and Merlot. Vintage 2013. #thesonoffig #figgins #figginswine #wallawallaholla #washingtonstatewine #cabernetsauvignon #newworldcab

Seemed better than the '09. Cedar and tobacco aromas. Dark cherry, plums, and licorice. Great structure with good acidity and firm tannins.

Didn't get to taste this last night; too many great wines. A little hair o'the dog this morning. Tight and brambly nose with a hint of eucalyptus, a palate of red fruits and loads of acidity, but with enough finesse to bring it all together. Smooth tannins and a bit of herbs on the long finish. Worth the price? Hmm.
