This was a great find. Dark purple in the glass with long legs and a powerful dark fruit, plum and raisin nose. Smooth, concentrated palate that is dense and rich without being overly sweet, tannins are there to give a slightly dry finish but fruit prevails with some cinnamon sprinkles in the mix. Italian primitivo masquerading as Paso Robles Zinfandel, lovely stuff.

A bit of a disappointment, having seen thousands of glowing reviews for this wine on Vivino - both critics and users alike. Primitivo, grown in the heat of Puglia in southern Italy, will never pretend to have the complexity of its cooler-climate contemporaries, but even by Primitivo’s standards this was overbearingly sweet and jammy, with little else to redeem itself. The mouthfeel was fairly one-dimensional; the finish did have some length and savoury quality, but not enough.
I have another bottle, which I’ll forget about for five or so years and see how it is then.
