Popped and poured. The 2021 pours a ruby color with a translucent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, developing with fresh notes of cherry, strawberry, some watermelon, red carnations, dried green herbs, dusty earth, saw dust. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. There’s a sort of waxy, medium finish. A nice compliment to a variety of foods. Drink now and over the next 10 years.

Popped and poured; no formal notes. Cherries, bergamot, clay with medium structure and medium finish. A charming, more than serviceable Chianti paired with a delicious impromptu Monday night dinner at VF.

The most disappointing vintage of this I’ve had. Thin and a little green.

I’m not sure what to make of Selvapiana yet. This, like the 2 other young examples I’ve had recently, showed some green flavor notes, alongside good fruit and good length. (I don’t recall anything like that in the few older ones I’ve tried.) interestingly, this bottle was more vigorous on night three. So, limited data, but seems these want both age and lots of air.

Somehow this outperformed the 2016 in my memory. Lots of cedar and herbs, black cherry, anise and cardamom. Lovely sinewy tannin and mineral finish.

Black cherry and salvia. Soupy, short, and lacking cut. Perfectly fine, were it $9 entry-level Chianti...which it isn’t. Sadly, I’m expecting a lot of 2015s to be like this. #rufina #sangiovese #tuscany
