Coombsville Merlot
Deep Ruby with aromas of berry fruits and toasty herb floral spice. On the palate flavors of black cherry and blueberry with vanilla spice, espresso, leather and toasty herb notes. Fine tannins, medium+ finish ending with toasty earthy mineral layered spice character.

Jul 2nd, 2023Felt like a blast from the past. Definite right bank notes on the nose and mouth feel. Love the plush smoothness of the fruit. Would recommend.

Nov 2nd, 2019Old-school, savory, layered Merlot that brings freshness and plush texture to the table. Ripe red plums, red currants, warm spice, sage, coffee, umami.

Jan 31st, 2018Consistently my favorite domestic Merlot because it’s consistently a stellar wine. Beautiful medium purple with lighter lavender undertones. I love smelling this wine, it may be the best part of the show. Highly expressive nose that starts off with smoke, dried herbs, and blackberry cobbler. There are some really nice floral notes here too. Wonderful Coombsville fruit shining here, she’s not heavy handed or bloated. None of that “a Merlot that drinks like a Cab” happening, there’s a softness and a deftness despite the 14.5. So many other wines just can’t maintain this kind of balance: rich and deep without being heavy. Tons of black and red cherries on the palate, along with vanilla and just the right amount of oak. Year in and year out this is one of Napa’s great Merlots.

May 4th, 2016Sometimes a bottle of wine is beautiful inside and out, an elegant and intriguing #Merlot from @farellavineyard . Thank you @hawk_wakawaka for your review, a different vintage but now I can't wait to try a 2012. #NapaValley #Coombsville

Nov 20th, 2015Everytime I taste this wine, I’m reminded of just how much I love Merlot. When done right.
A medium purple hue with pretty lavender edges. The nose is expressive and inviting and just plain marvelous. Blackberry jam with a dollop of chocolate mousse. Dried herbs with smoke and earth. Floral notes just for good measure.
We all know and mostly love Merlot but we’re all used to big clunky examples. This is not that. Suave, svelte, and sensational. That Coombsville fruit is shining. Rich without cumbersome heft, deep without unnecessary heat. Cherries and plums on the palate with a welcome touch of earthiness. The finish is long and lusty. My favorite Merlot.
