Elio Altare
Larigi Langhe Barbera
I was expecting to totally hate this but I didn’t. Yes it’s very extracted and sweet and oaky but very well balanced and there’s some interesting brambly / pine stuff going on in the background along with the chocolatey raisinated fruit and creme de cassis. Sort of like a Christmas fruitcake

Nov 30th, 2019Hey. Wait a second... literally. Before you judge. Right off the cork this beauty is so wound up you'll think she's a real dog. A wet dog actually, who just rolled in manure and Italian nettles. Now, leave her to breathe just enough time to season and roast some pork. When you're done you'll find your girl has opened herself up to you. Barbera with a deep voluptuous Italian body, ripe dark skinned fruits and sublimely bitter. Gorgeous. And someone you can grow old with too. She'll age well for the next 10+ years if you treat her nice.

Dec 16th, 2016Incredible depth and intensity, great right off the bat and only got more exciting with some more time in the glass. 🍂🍁🍄🍒

Dec 15th, 2015The Altare La Villa can currently be defined by its depth and textures more than anything else, and it is just a baby today. The nose was rich with a mix of both high-toned red and black fruit, with grilled herbs, spice, leather, dusty soil tones and crushed stone. On the palate it showed dense, dark textures contrasted by brisk acidity with brilliant red and black fruits, spice and grippy tannins. Not a hint of oak is present here. It's beautifully balanced, fruit intense, and with great structure.
