El Coto de Rioja
Blanco Rioja Viura Blend
La Rioja, Spain

Made from mostly estate grown Viura grapes, indigenous to Rioja, pale lemon color with aromas of stone and citrus fruit. On the palate flavors of peach and citrus with herb floral notes. Good balance with lively acidity, medium finish ending with floral citrus spice notes.

While I expected a really sharp and racy nose from this yellow tinted wine, what I found was much softer. A floral note shares space with a lovely citrus component which smells more like tangerine than lemon. There is also a hint of honeydew melon. On the palate, the mineral-driven flavors lean more heavily into citrus while the acidity is zesty at best, not razor sharp. Mostly Viura with small portions of Sauvignon Blanc and Verdejo grapes.

Jul 27th, 2023Primarily Viura with some Verdejo and Sauvignon Blanc blended in. Light white gold color. Aromas of green orchard fruit, white flowers, citrus and wet stones. Flavors of pear, peach, lime, orange and cantaloupe fruit with a distinct mineral note. Light body and a bit short on the finish but the acidity is lively. Bone dry and reasonably low (12.5%) alcohol. Clean and fresh. Thanks for the refresher, Chris B!
