Egon Müller
Scharzhof Riesling
Intense tart green apple, ripe but not soft or lacking in definition, refreshing and vibrant on the palate. Definitely tastes off dry

Dec 25th, 2022This is better tonight. Lifted and light on its feet. Lemongrass, limes, kiwi fruit and a hint of passion fruit present on the mid palate. Tilts sweet on the finish with light acidity.

Jun 11th, 2022Typical Riesling, but effervescent on the mid palate, which I find off-putting. Overall tho, very approachable.

May 22nd, 2022Apple seed and apple wood accents lend decisive counterpoint on both nose and palate to the 2020 Riesling Scharzhof’s dominant, crunchy apple and zesty lemon fruit. Suggestions of apple blossom hover throughout. The feel is firm, and the lingering finish offers refreshment as well as stimulating cut and piquancy. (The source vineyards for this large cuvée are once again largely Saarburger Rausch, Wiltinger Braunfels and Oberemmeler Rosenberg.) (David Schildknecht, Vinous, May 2022)

Seriously how do they do it? This is fabulous. Not cheap for a QbA but worth every penny. It is so precise and persistent. Citrus aromas abound. Super chalky and mineral on the palate. Fresh and lively. Almost electric. Great with Greek mezethes

Apr 23rd, 2020The 2018 'Scharzhof' Riesling is a sensational release from Egon Müller. This elegant Riesling opens to gorgeous aromatics of lime, elderflowers and crushed slate that all come together in the glass. The palate is simply electric, as this slightly off-dry Riesling simply dazzles with its wonderful minerality and bright mouth watering acidity. Showing incredible purity and precision this Riesling thoroughly impresses from start to finish. This is absolutely stunning today and should also go on to drink beautifully over the course of the next decade.
