E. Guigal
La Landonne Côte-Rotie Syrah
Remarkable. Juicy and so dense but my goodness this is so elegant. It’s amazing how light on its feet the wine is for such a big boy. Genius.

Delicious rich fruit with that lift of viognier. Great purity and intensity and length. Really great stuff

Jan 26th, 2023Decanted for a few hours, then taken to Saison in SF. Tawny color with lite rims, mostly translucent. Deep powerful nose, with notes of red fruit, smoked meat, dry brush, Asian spice, pepper, dark moist soil and a little menthol. Rich, silky and intense in the mouth. Long finish. Great juice.

Jun 9th, 2022Absolutely stunning, with aromas leaping from the glass. You can smell it just being nearby. It’s ultra intense aromatics of smoked meats, campfire smoke, black licorice and both black and red fruit couldn’t be more assertive. Hard to put this one down.
It’s flavors expand on the palate showing superb richness and a searing intensity, and they detonate like little tiny grenades. There is a supreme elegance to this wine that provides impeccable balance and a sensuality to complement its rich and robust flavors. Finishes exceptionally long with soft caressing tannins. A well stored bottle has much life left indeed. Fantastic showing, especially for what can be considered an unheralded vintage for the Northern Rhône. No problem for the La La’s 💥

Tasted blind. By now we’re starting to get a bit polluted from all the previous wines. This is dark tawny in color with great fruit, black cherry, spice, dark earth and some wood. Comes across as young and not yielding much. With air the wine gets more rich and the texture of the juice is amazing. This explodes with power, fruit and an amazing finish. Nobody guessed Syrah or Rhone. I threw out an 82 Mouton guess. Sometimes a guess is rated as “at least you got the country right”… We were all impressed with how good this was. It was the WOTD for many.
