The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino is youthfully coy in the glass, slowly opening with a delicate blend of smoked meats, cedar dust, crushed rocks and dried strawberries. It’s soft and enveloping with silky textures, a sweet and sour interplay of mineral-tinged berries and balsamic spice hints. Fine tannins mount toward the close. This finishes youthfully tense and grippy with a bump of residual acidity to balance its saturation of primary components. The 2016 is in an odd and slightly dormant place in its evolution. (Eric Guido, Vinous, December 2023)

Popped and poured; no formal notes. A little shy upon opening but after 30min of air, this was bangin’! Montmorency cherry, orange peel, black tea, dry dusty earth, spices. Firm structure. Still quite youthful but undeniably delicious. A wonderful accompaniment to pasta, marinara and panzanella. Drinking very well now with a little air and should continue to do so for another 10+ years.

Dark tawny red color. Mostly translucent. Decent nose with notes of black cherry and roses, some wood, a little tobacco leaf, and a little anise. Packs a punch in the mouth, with still-present acidity and structure supporting the fruit. OK finish.

Hard to predict at this point how awesome this will get, but with an hr+ in the decanter it was sublime. Rich in scorched earth and dark red fruit, brooding layers of stony cocoa and espresso roast. Tight tannins frame the waves coming at you, this will get way better with time.

Nice dark tawny color, almost opaque. Notes of black cherry, dried brush, some iron and some old wood. Nice mouth feel with fruit still present but slightly faded, matched with solid acidity and structure. Needed food as a compliment (homemade pasta and sauce) to show its best.

Baked fruits and spices and showing more development then I would expect for 2007

What a great year. This was just a test. This is a 20+ year wine. Medium. Great structure. Good tannins. Smooth. If you only have a bottle or two then give it another year to check out. But my guess is at 15 this should be shinning.

Earthy, complex, structured and floral with intense aromas of violets, dried red roses and tobacco, bright acidity and structured tannins on the palate with notes of wild strawberries and red cherries and hints of savory herbs.

Brilliant ruby and appealing aromas of cherry, forest brush, leather, plum and anise. Ripe tannins, very elegant
