2000 | Nebbiolo
Domenico Clerico; Pajana (Ginestra)
Piedmont - Langhe; Barolo, Monforte d'Alba, Italy
(92-94; Drink 2030-40)

Nose has cherry jam, wet leather, stewed red fruits, sweet tobacco and dark chocolate.
Palate has cherry mash, moist chocolate brownie, cedar and sea salt. Fading but present tannins.

12H decant, still needs airing, long life ahead. I'm a fan of 2000 Baroli.

Rich, warm black fruit, supple and extracted. Cooperage is beginning to melt away, inviting tannins, tertiaries coming out.

The modern style of Barolo will tend to converge back to the mean with time in bottle, this proves it as the oak has been she'd and the Nebbiolo character is primary. Very enjoyable bottle of Neb!

Tawny and mostly opaque. Killer nose. Notes of plum, soy, anise, roses, some tar and dark earth. Sublime in the mouth. In a great place right now.

Tawny color. Clean and barely translucent. Opened and given 3 hours of air. Great nose. Notes of black cherry, roses, cranberries, tea, road tar, menthol, soy sauce and a little smokiness. Very big in the mouth. Fruit is matched against a lot of structure and backbone. Great tonight with osso bucco. Has a long life ahead of it.

Big boy. Dark fruit, nothing subtle about it. The tannins are in a nice place though - abundant but fine grained.

Black raspberry, candied red raspberry, roses, red liquorice, sweet tobacco, faint warm leather, warm earth. Tannins pounce early but they don’t draw long and shapely, quite short in their definition. Acid is there and a good foil to the tannin, but the tannins still very much defund this wine, very drying. Lacks the length and finish one would be expecting also. Not bad.

Incredibly solid pajana in 2011. 30 minutes in the decanter and it starts to really show. Built for another 15-20, though. #barolo #2011 #underratedvintage
