Last bottle of a summer dinner- no decant. 2nd tasting of this vintage & much more expressive than the first. Throws Brett a decent amount & imagine some might prefer a substantial decant, though I like the funkiness. Fine toothed &a lovely grainy, slightly chewy texture & rather elegant; cassis, black currant, smoked beef jerky, & black cherry on palate & nose. Not complex at this stage but who needs it given the enjoyment factor. Post meal ( or probably blended into the end) of grilled BBQ chicken, French lentilsw labneh, & local tomato salad. There goes summer…

No notes. Beef jerky & dark cherries, on nose & palate. Thinner concentration I had hoped for, but suspect age, air and/ or long decant will bring it together

Crazy aromatics of game and smoke. Violets and pepper there, but the feral accents dominate. Medium bodied, juicy palate. Ruby grapefruit (a common Rhone note for me). Pair with pheasant, venison, or lean game.
12.5% abv.

This is a terrific and open St. Joe. Lively nose has cured beef, juniper, bright purple berry fruit, crushed granite, and whiff of wood smoke.nice flavor concentration in a smooth and lithe frame, tannins super soft. Goes down very easily.

Warming nose of breadlines, smoked meat, and a touch of iodine. Bright berry on the front palate. Currant liqueur on the finish. No mid-palate at all. Beautiful wrapping job on an empty box.

Pretty tight at first but subdued aromas were able to be pulled front the glass. Still pretty mellow a few hours later but definitely a St. Joseph. Crushed rocks, pepper, currants and violets.

On opening, quite savage and bloody with an incredible saline note under the fruit. Next impression is a lingering minerality. Next impression...deliciousness. There end the notes. I just kept pouring.
