Le Mont Demi-Sec Vouvray Chenin Blanc

Now this is a Chenin Blanc I can get behind! Slightly aging brassy gold. Nose is so nice: sweet, oozing, bruised orchard fruit, a floral/tropical note. Sweat (but not stinky sweat). On the palate it’s terrific. Like fresh sweet slices of Anjou pear. A very slight oxidative note (but not enough to turn me off), and some bitter honey. Long finish.

Vintage age 2018 | yesterday tasted with Coravin, today with more air. That gives the wine an extra dimension - so eventually decant it. Smell: Turkish Fruit, hay, impression of honey and melon. Well balanced taste, well rounded taste ( in Dutch: mollig) high in bitters. Became a real treat with a sushibol as first course and Cantonese cabbage with shrimps afterwards.

Brilliant. It’s faded and lost its way. But I love it. You won’t. Unless you understand what it’s like to have too old chenin that is of the highest caliber. Is it easy drinking? It’s not. Do I love it? I do. 2002

This lovely wine comes off as only off dry due to the very high acidity. Well structured with medium body and a silky texture
Loads of lemon, green apple, pear, wet stone, Melon, acacia, pineapple, white pepper and beginning to show tertiary characters like honey, baked apple
Very good quality and will last for years.

Shared with an old friend at Cranes DC. Paired with Hamachi crudo, pineapple kombucha etc.
Shows its age with more savory, mineral notes and a sharpish, Sherry-like oxidative undertone. Noticable sweetness on palate entry but then the acid perks up and drives through the finish. A great choice to pair with a great meal.

Uber young bright mineral and lots of length. Built for the long haul

Tonight it was time to open my 2007 Domaine Huet Le Mont Demi-Sec Vouvray.

On the nose there is peach, apricot, persimmon, baked apple, lime, honeydew melon, jasmine and brioche.

On the palate we have wonderful notes of peach, honeysuckle, honeycomb, ripe yellow apple, lime, ginger and minerals.

This wine is medium bodied with a viscous mouthcoating mouthfeel and with this age still has mouthwatering medium + acidity that moves smoothly into a medium+ to long peach lemon mineral finish. What a treat. I thought this may be past its prime but no it is still wonderful. Just goes to show you the Loire Chenin Blanc age gracefully. Happy hump day and enjoy the end of the week. Slightly oxidative. But enough white stone fruit and acidity and complexity time make this just wonderful.

Petrol, almond paste, ginger, honey, dried apricot, fig, musk, smoke, savory mushroom, forest floor. Medium(+) acidity. Long finish.

Pale straw, heady aroma of white flowers - acacia, lime, juicy apricot, pineapple, white peach, white pepper, celery. High acidity, high alcohol. Full body. Long finish. 14%.
